Summer 2012 offeringsStill in Amherst this summer? Looking for a way to grow in the knowledge of God and His Word? Join us for MHU Summer!
The first offering will be a theology survey course co-taught by Joshua Bokel and Gregory Campeau. Our hope is that it will be a blessing to all who participate, no matter previous study. The study of theology is often neglected among Christians, to our own detriment. Instead we rely on our feelings to get us through the tough times. The winds of culture seem to blow our feelings and opinions in all directions; it is our conviction that a faith built on the firm foundation of the gospel of Christ informed by sound theology will remain. The second course will be another offering of [the] WORD taught by Joshua Bokel. We believe that God used this class in the Spring semester to draw people into communion with Him. If you are interested in digging into the Bible and "getting serious" about your faith then this is the class for you. For a schedule of classes and for more information please check out MHU Online at mercyhouseuniversity.wordpress.com. Let us know you're interested, and if you have any questions email Joshua Bokel at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . [the] WordTeacher: Joshua BokelThe early church was devoted to the Word, and they didn't have Bibles on their iPhones. We have more access to the Bible than any other culture in the history of the world. When was the last time you sat down at home and actually read it? What about digging through the words and phrases of a passage to get as much out of it as you can? What about memorization? This class is designed to provide a kick in the pants (in a nice way) for those who want to be devoted to the Word of God by hearing, reading, studying, memorizing and meditating. Anyone who wants to be part of this is signing up for a commitment. There are weekly memory passages; daily reading lists; and a few additional assignments. You will be introduced to online study tools as well as many principles for Biblical interpretation. Each week will have an agenda something like this:
FacultyJoshua Bokel
Josh Bokel was educated at RPI (Troy, NY) and at Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary (S. Hamilton, MA). He began college with an interest in math, engineering and other technical fields; however, before entering graduate school he discovered his calling to study theology and the Bible. He went on to seminary to learn the languages and the skills necessary for exegesis. Josh studied Greek, Hebrew, Latin, Aramaic, Akkadian and Ugaritic as well as theology and history courses while in school and participated in archaeological excavations in Tel es-Safi (Philistine Gath) in Israel. Josh moved to the Pioneer Valley in 2009 to start married life with Felicia. He is currently a math and life skills teacher and track and field coach at Frontier Regional School (S. Deerfield, MA).
